Mission

BluesPAC is the voluntary, bipartisan political action committee of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Blue Care Network, LifeSecure, the Accident Fund Group and COBX.

The mission of BluesPAC is to provide its members with a collective opportunity to be involved in the political process for the good of the organization and the communities it serves by supporting candidates whose political views are closely aligned with those of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and its subsidiaries.

Oversight

BluesPAC is located within the Governmental Affairs Department of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.  The BluesPAC treasurer and administrator are responsible for day-to-day management of the PAC.  The BluesPAC Board of Directors provides oversight to ensure compliance with soliciting contributions and disbursing funds.  BluesPAC reports its activities quarterly to the Michigan Secretary of State and the Federal Election Commission. .    

Advocacy

In any given year, well over 300 bills may be introduced on the state and federal levels that could impact our business.  The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Governmental Affairs and Public Policy departments work together to identify, monitor and advocate on potential legislation.  BluesPAC is able to benefit from this work by gaining an understanding of individual lawmaker’s position on issues of importance to the enterprise.  In turn, BluesPAC can help support candidates and public officials who are more likely to share our views.
